Vivek Chaand Sehgal was born on 28th February 1957 in Delhi, India. He completed his education from Delhi University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Commerce. After completing his studies, he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, driven by a vision to create a world-class automotive components manufacturing company.

In 1975, Sehgal started his first venture, Motherson Auto Components (MAC), which focused on manufacturing wiring harnesses for the automotive industry. Under his leadership, MAC grew rapidly, expanding its operations and establishing a strong presence in the Indian market. Sehgal's relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to quality propelled the company's growth.

In 1994, Vivek Chaand Sehgal founded Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG) as a joint venture with Sumitomo Wiring Systems, a leading Japanese wiring harness manufacturer.
