Ramaswamy Venkataraman Biography( Eighth President)

 R Venkataraman, whose full name was Ramaswamy Venkataraman, was an Indian lawyer, politician, and statesman who served as the eighth President of India. He was born on December 4, 1910, in Rajamadam village in the Madras Presidency of British India (now part of Tamil Nadu).

Venkataraman completed his education at Loyola College in Chennai and later obtained a law degree from the Law College in Madras. He began his legal career at the Madras High Court and quickly established himself as a successful lawyer.

In the political arena, Venkataraman was actively involved in the Indian independence movement. He joined the Indian National Congress and became a prominent member of the party. After India gained independence in 1947, he served as a member of the Constituent Assembly, which was responsible for drafting the Constitution of India.

Venkataraman held various ministerial positions in the Indian government. He served as the Minister of Finance from 1980 to 1982, during which he played a crucial role in implementing economic reforms and addressing the country's fiscal challenges. He also held the portfolio of Defense Minister for a brief period in 1982.

In 1984, Venkataraman was elected as the eighth Vice President of India, serving under President Zail Singh. He held this position until 1987 when he was elected as the President of India. Venkataraman assumed office as the President on July 25, 1987, and served a single term of five years.

As President, Venkataraman focused on upholding the values of the Indian Constitution and played a vital role in maintaining the stability and integrity of the country. He was known for his integrity, constitutional expertise, and commitment to social justice.
