Jairam Thakur is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He was born on January 6, 1965, in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. Thakur is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been actively involved in the party's politics for several years.

Thakur completed his schooling from a local government school in his hometown and later obtained a Bachelor's degree in Arts from Vallabh Government College in Mandi. He then pursued a post-graduate degree in Public Administration from Panjab University in Chandigarh.

Thakur's political journey began in the late 1980s when he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP. He actively participated in student politics during his college days and held various leadership positions within the ABVP.

In 1998, Thakur contested the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections for the first time and emerged victorious from the Seraj constituency. He retained his seat in the subsequent elections in 2003, 2007, 2012, and 2017. Over the years, Thakur held several important positions in the state government, including serving as the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

On December 27, 2017, Jairam Thakur was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He succeeded Virbhadra Singh of the Indian National Congress and became the first Chief Minister from Mandi district. Under his leadership, the state government has focused on various developmental initiatives, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
