Ram Prasad Bismil Biography

 Ram Prasad Bismil (11 June 1897 – 19 December 1927) was an Indian revolutionary, poet, and freedom fighter who played a significant role in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. He was one of the prominent members of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) and was involved in several revolutionary activities aimed at overthrowing British rule in India.

Bismil was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was exposed to patriotic and revolutionary ideas from a young age. Inspired by the revolutionary activities of other freedom fighters, he joined the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. However, he soon became disillusioned with the non-violent approach and believed that armed revolution was necessary to achieve independence.

In 1923, Bismil formed the Hindustan Republican Association along with other like-minded revolutionaries such as Ashfaqulla Khan, Chandrasekhar Azad, and Bhagat Singh. The organization aimed to liberate India from British rule through armed rebellion. Bismil was one of the key strategists and thinkers of the group, and he contributed to the writing of their revolutionary manifesto called "The Revolutionary."

Bismil was involved in several acts of revolutionary violence against the British government. One of the notable incidents was the Kakori train robbery in 1925, where the HRA members looted a train carrying government funds. The incident gained widespread attention and was a setback for the British administration.

In 1927, Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan were arrested for their involvement in the Kakori case and were subsequently tried in court. Despite attempts to defend themselves, they were convicted and sentenced to death. Bismil was executed on 19 December 1927 in Gorakhpur Central Jail.

Apart from his revolutionary activities, Ram Prasad Bismil was also a talented poet. His poems, often written in Hindi and Urdu, expressed his love for the country and his desire for freedom. Some of his popular works include "Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna" (The Desire for Sacrifice) and "Mainpuri Ki Pratigya" (The Pledge of Mainpuri).
