Ram Nath Kovind Biography

 Ram Nath Kovind, born on October 1, 1945, is an Indian politician who served as the 14th President of India from July 25, 2017, to July 25, 2022. He was the second Dalit (a historically marginalized community in India) to hold the position of President, after K.R. Narayanan.

Kovind was born in Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh, India. He hailed from a humble background and his father was a farmer. He completed his early education in a local village school and later moved to Kanpur for further studies. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Kanpur University and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from DAV College in Kanpur.

After completing his education, Kovind began practicing law in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He had a successful career as an advocate, specializing in constitutional law. During his legal career, he also served as the personal assistant to Morarji Desai, the Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979.

Kovind's political career began in the early 1990s when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He held various positions within the party and worked extensively in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In 1994, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He served two consecutive terms as an MP until 2006.

During his tenure as an MP, Kovind focused on issues related to education, social justice, and the welfare of marginalized communities. He worked diligently to improve the living conditions and rights of the Dalit community, which he himself belonged to.

In 2015, Kovind was appointed as the Governor of Bihar, a state in eastern India. As Governor, he emphasized the importance of education, healthcare, and social welfare. His tenure as the Governor was marked by his commitment to the welfare of the marginalized sections of society.

In 2017, the BJP nominated Kovind as its candidate for the presidential election. He emerged as the consensus candidate for the ruling coalition, and with widespread support, he won the presidential election by a significant margin. On July 25, 2017, Ram Nath Kovind was sworn in as the 14th President of India.

As President, Kovind performed ceremonial duties and represented India at various national and international events. He advocated for the upliftment of marginalized communities and the welfare of farmers. He also focused on promoting education and skill development programs.

After completing his five-year term as President, Kovind retired from active politics on July 25, 2022. He has since resumed a quieter life outside of politics.
