Pramod Pandurang Sawant (CM) Goa Biography
Sawant completed his education in the field of Ayurveda. He holds a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery (BAMS) degree from the Ganga Education Society's Ayurvedic Medical College in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Before entering politics, Sawant worked as an Ayurveda practitioner in Goa.
His political journey began in the late 1990s when he joined the BJP's youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). He quickly rose through the ranks and became the President of the BJYM Goa unit in 2002. Sawant actively participated in various organizational activities and campaigns of the BJP.
In 2012, Sawant was elected as a Member of the Goa Legislative Assembly from the Sanquelim constituency. He successfully retained his seat in the subsequent 2017 and 2019 assembly elections. Sawant held several positions in the state government, including Chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and Chairman of the Goa State Mineral Development Corporation.
Following the demise of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in March 2019, Sawant was chosen as his successor by the BJP leadership. He was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Goa on March 19, 2019. Sawant has since been leading the BJP-led coalition government in the state.
As Chief Minister, Sawant has focused on various developmental initiatives, including infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and employment generation. He has also emphasized the need for sustainable development and preserving Goa's natural beauty and heritage.
Pramod Sawant is married to Sulakshana Sawant, and the couple has two sons. In addition to his political responsibilities, he has been actively involved in social and cultural activities in Goa.
