Nirmala Sitharaman Biography

 Nirmala Sitharaman is an Indian politician and economist who has served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs in the Government of India. She was born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Sitharaman completed her schooling in various cities due to her father's job transfers. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramasamy College in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. She went on to pursue a Master's degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi.

After completing her education, Sitharaman worked as a research associate at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in New Delhi. She also served as a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and as a deputy director of the Centre for Public Policy Studies at Hyderabad.

Sitharaman joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2006 and quickly rose through the ranks. She was appointed as the party's spokesperson and became a prominent face of the BJP, representing the party in debates and discussions on various television news channels.

In May 2014, Sitharaman was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. She was then inducted into the Union Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry.

During her tenure as the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Sitharaman played a crucial role in promoting India's trade and commerce interests. She led several initiatives to boost exports and worked towards improving ease of doing business in India. Her efforts were focused on streamlining regulations, encouraging foreign direct investment, and promoting the "Make in India" campaign.
