 H.D. Deve Gowda, whose full name is Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda, is an Indian politician who served as the 11th Prime Minister of India. He was born on May 18, 1933, in Haradanahalli, a small village in Karnataka, India. Gowda hails from a farming family and has remained connected to his rural roots throughout his political career.

Before becoming the Prime Minister, Deve Gowda had a long and successful political journey. He started his political career in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He rose through the ranks and eventually became the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. However, he developed differences with the INC leadership and left the party in the 1960s.

In 1994, Deve Gowda co-founded the Janata Dal (Secular) party (JD(S)), a regional political party in Karnataka.
