Falguni Nayar completed her schooling at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai and went on to pursue a degree in Mathematics from the University of Mumbai. She later earned an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

After completing her MBA, Nayar joined the multinational consumer goods company Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). She worked at HUL for almost two decades, holding various leadership positions within the company. Her last role at HUL was as the Managing Director of the Beauty and Personal Care division.

In 2012, Falguni Nayar decided to venture into the world of entrepreneurship and founded Nykaa.
