Dr. Subhas Chandra completed his early education in Dhanbad and later pursued a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Calcutta. He came from a business-oriented family and was exposed to entrepreneurship from a young age. After completing his education, he started his career as a rice trader and ventured into various businesses, including manufacturing and exporting goods.
In 1992, Dr. Subhas Chandra launched Zee TV, India's first private Hindi satellite television channel, which revolutionized the country's media landscape. Zee TV became immensely popular and paved the way for the growth of the Essel Group's media empire, which included several other television channels, film production, and distribution companies.
Apart from his business ventures, Dr. Subhas Chandra had a keen interest in politics and social welfare. In 2006, he was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, representing the state of Haryana. He actively participated in parliamentary debates and discussions, advocating for various social and economic causes.
Dr. Subhas Chandra was known for his philanthropic efforts as well. He established the Subhash Chandra Foundation, which focuses on initiatives related to education, healthcare, and rural development. The foundation has implemented several programs and projects to uplift underprivileged communities and provide access to quality education and healthcare facilities.
In recognition of his contributions to the fields of media, business, and social welfare, Dr. Subhas Chandra received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. These include the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian awards, conferred upon him in 2003.
Dr. Subhas Chandra passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60. His entrepreneurial spirit, pioneering efforts in the media industry, and commitment to social causes have left a lasting impact on India's business and philanthropic landscape.
