Basavaraj Bommai (CM) Karnataka Biography
Bommai comes from a political family. His father, S.R. Bommai, was also a prominent politician and served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka in the early 1980s. His father's involvement in politics had a significant impact on Basavaraj Bommai, shaping his career and interests.
Basavaraj Bommai completed his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology in Hubli. He later pursued a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, USA.
Bommai entered politics as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been actively involved in the party's activities and has held various positions within the organization. He has also served as the state general secretary and state vice-president of the BJP in Karnataka.
In 2008, Bommai was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Shiggaon constituency. He has been re-elected multiple times since then and has represented various constituencies, including Shiggaon, Haveri, and Mahalakshmi Layout.
Throughout his political career, Bommai has held several important positions in the Karnataka government. He has served as the Minister for Water Resources, Cooperation, and Major and Medium Irrigation in the government of Karnataka. He has also been the Minister for Home Affairs and Law and Parliamentary Affairs in the state government.
On July 28, 2021, Basavaraj Bommai was sworn in as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka, succeeding B. S. Yediyurappa. His appointment came after Yediyurappa's resignation from the post. Bommai's selection as Chief Minister was seen as a strategic move by the BJP to maintain a balance between different factions within the party and to consolidate its position in the state.
