 Pranab Mukherjee, full name Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, was an Indian politician and statesman who served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017. He was born on December 11, 1935, in Mirati village, Bengal Presidency, British India (now in West Bengal, India), and he passed away on August 31, 2020.

Early Life and Education:

Pranab Mukherjee was born into a middle-class family to parents Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and Rajlakshmi Mukherjee. He completed his school education in Kirnahar Shib Chandra High School and Suri Vidyasagar College in West Bengal. Mukherjee then went on to receive a degree in political science and history from the University of Calcutta and a law degree from the same university's law college.

Political Career:

Pranab Mukherjee's political career spanned over five decades. He joined politics in 1969 when he became a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). Mukherjee held various positions within the party and played a significant role in shaping Indian politics. He served as a member of the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Parliament of India) five times and was elected to the Lok Sabha (the lower house) twice.

Throughout his career, Mukherjee held several important ministerial portfolios, including Finance, External Affairs, and Defense. He served as the Minister of Finance from 1982 to 1984 and from 2009 to 2012, during which he implemented crucial economic reforms and played a key role in shaping India's economic policies. He also served as the Minister of External Affairs from 2006 to 2009 and played an important role in strengthening India's diplomatic relations with other countries.

Presidency:

On July 25, 2012, Pranab Mukherjee was elected as the President of India, succeeding Pratibha Patil.
