 Pt. Madan Mohan (1924-1975) was a renowned Indian film composer and music director. He was born on June 25, 1924, in Erbil, Iraq, and his full name was Madan Mohan Kohli. He is considered one of the most talented composers of the Hindi film industry, particularly known for his soulful and melodious compositions.

Madan Mohan's family moved to India when he was very young, and he grew up in Lahore, now in Pakistan. He displayed a keen interest in music from a young age and received his early training in classical music from Pandit Manohar Barwe. He also learned to play the piano and was deeply influenced by Western classical music.

Madan Mohan made his debut as a music director in 1950 with the film "Aankhen," but it was his work in the film "Adaa" (1951) that brought him recognition and acclaim. He went on to compose music for numerous films over the next few decades and worked with some of the most prominent filmmakers and actors of his time.

Some of Madan Mohan's most notable compositions include songs like "Lag Ja Gale" from the film "Woh Kaun Thi?" (1964), "Main Toh Tere Haseen Khayalon Mein" from "Sangam" (1964), and "Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil" from "Heer Raanjha" (1970). His compositions were known for their emotional depth, intricate melodies, and poetic lyrics.

Despite his immense talent, Madan Mohan did not achieve the same level of commercial success as some of his contemporaries. However, he enjoyed a dedicated fan base and is highly regarded for his contributions to Indian film music. His work continues to be admired and cherished by music lovers even today.

Tragically, Madan Mohan passed away on July 14, 1975, at the age of 51 due to liver cirrhosis. His untimely death left a void in the music industry, but his legacy lives on through his timeless melodies and the impact he made on Indian film music.
