Murmu is an Indian politician and the current Governor of Jharkhand. She was born on June 20, 1958, in a small village called Kusumdiha in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. She hails from the Santhal tribal community, which is one of the largest tribes in India.

Murmu started her career as a teacher and later became a social worker, working to improve the lives of women and children in her community. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1997 and became a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2000. She has also served as the Minister of State for Women and Child Development in the Government of Odisha.

In 2014, she was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the reserved constituency of Mayurbhanj in Odisha. During her tenure as an MP, she worked to promote the rights and welfare of the tribal communities in her state. She also served as the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment in the Lok Sabha.

In 1997, Droupadi Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became a member of the party's Scheduled Tribe Morcha. She served as the Vice-President of the BJP's Odisha State Scheduled Tribe Morcha from 2002 to 2004. In 2000, she was elected as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Rairangpur constituency, and she served in the assembly till 2004. During her tenure in the assembly, she worked on issues related to education, health, and the welfare of tribal communities.

In 2014, Droupadi Murmu was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Mayurbhanj constituency in Odisha. She was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019. During her tenure as a Member of Parliament, she was a member of various parliamentary committees, including the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

In May 2015, Droupadi Murmu was appointed as the Vice-President of the BJP's Odisha unit. She served in this position till 2019. On May 18, 2019, she was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand, becoming the first woman and the first tribal leader to hold the position.

As the Governor of Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu has worked towards the development of the state and the welfare of its people. She has focused on issues such as education, health, women's empowerment, and the welfare of tribal communities. She has also been actively involved in promoting the cultural heritage of the state.
